Tyler Perry's Acrimony -Movie Review
"Hell hath no fury like a woman? Well, I think Tyler Perry may have pissed a bunch of them off with this movie."
Tyler Perry's Acrimony if the latest movie by none other than Tyler Perry himself. The movie stars Taraji P Henson as the lead character Melinda Gayle, who has had enough of her man and his games you know the typical Tyler Perry Movie, but did tyler perry return to his old form and make a decent movie again? Hell No!.
Story
This movie seemed like a pretty standard tyler perry drama with a hurt black woman, getting treated badly by a dark black man only to be saved by a light skin man, but oh it is far from that, hell this might be one of the best comedies of the year by accident. The dialogue is bad at times, and the choices the characters make are beyond stupid that I and everyone else in the theater just couldn't help but laugh, and I don't think this film had many scenes that were supposed to be funny. This movie was just that bad that whenever anything serious happened no one could take it seriously.
I'll give him some props it did take a turn I wasn't really expecting, but after that point, you cant tell his ass just stop giving a fuck about this movies and just starting doing whatever the fuck he wanted. this movie stopped being a drama/thriller and really tried to be a horror movie by the end. the way he had things escalate pretty much came out of nowhere, and then it all just ended abruptly. No resolution, no seeing how everyone's life changed, just ended like that. rumor has it he filmed this in 10 days he probably wrote it that morning too if you asked me.
Characters
I personally like Taraji P. Henson as an actress, but this film did not do her any justice. First, she was only in half of the movie, the other half her character was played by Ajione Alexus and she was just the narrator It was suppose to be a flashback kinda thing letting you know how the story got set up but lasted way too long. Second, neither of the actresses was likable as the lead character. She seemed pretty crazy for the most part of the film, but you still felt bad for her because of what her husband, played by Lyric Bent, was putting her through. But once the third act started her character turned into batshit crazy horror movie villain, it was ridiculous. Like she really needed to smoke a little mj to calm her down or something cause them cigarettes wasn't cutting it.
The way the trailers portrayed the story I thought I'd be on Taraji's side by the end of the movie, but instead, I was 100% on the side of the husband. Now if this movie was supposed to do that then good job TP, but knowing him he doesn't really do anything good on purpose.
Typical Tyler?
I personally think he tried to change it up a tad bit near the end but overall I think this is just another big piece of shit movie that Perry made to cash in on his audience, but if he keeps making crap like this he might lose them as well. A lot of people left this film saying they didn't like it, and if you don't go into this movie high and expecting a comedy you probably will leave saying the same thing.
Look if you like Tyler Perry, give it a shot if anything you'll get some laughs out of it, but if you hate Tyler Perry movies your gonna hate this one. I give this 1 joint out of 5 solely because I felt I didn't waste my money or weed going to see this. I got a few good laughs (even though I wasn't suppose to) and the crowd I saw it with really helped, nothing more fun than a tyler perry crowd. So are you gonna see the latest garbage by Tyler Perry?
