Box Office: Highs & Downers (May 25-27)
"Who took home the number one spot, and who need a session to get those numbers higher in this week's highs and downers"
With three huge blockbusters in theaters at the same time, moviegoers had plenty of choices to blaze and go see this weekend. Solo: A Star Wars Story looked to shake up the top 5 in its opening weekend, but juggernauts Deadpool 2 and Infinity War were still out to prove that they have legs and aren't done raking in the money. Which movie took home the rights to become the number one movie in America, and which movies need something stronger to get those numbers higher. Let's find out as I tell you all the highs and all the downers of this weekends biggest box office news.
Box Office Top 5
1. Solo: A Star Wars Story - 83.3 Mil
2. Deadpool 2 - 42.7 Mil
3. Avengers: Infinity War - 16.4 Mil
4. Book Club - 9.4 Mil
5. Life of the Party- 5.1 Mil

Highs
Solo Takes #1
With over 83 million, Solo: A Star Wars Story took home the number one spot away from Deadpool in its opening weekend. We kinda figured it would be number one since it has the Star Wars name attached to it, but although it did become the number one film it still might have left a sour taste in Disney's mouth (but we will get to in a bit). I Think it will be tough for Solo to stay at number one next weekend, but for this weekend they can blaze a little and brag that they are the number one movie in America.
Downers
Solo: A Disappointing Story
Yes, Solo did take the number one spot, but going into the weekend everyone thought this movie was gonna be on pace to break records and then it didn't. The 83 million it made was far off from the projection of around 150 million. This movie had a lot of bad buzz around it which many thought wouldn't stop it since it is star wars after all, but I guess you just can't throw a move out that no one wants and expect it to do gangbuster. In my review, I honestly didn't think this movie was terrible but I could kinda see why fans didn't rush out to see this. Maybe next time Disney will listen to its fans more and give us what we want (probably not since they are already doing it again with the Boba Fett movie no one is calling for).
Deadpool 2 drops like the X-force
Well, we all knew this summer would be one of the toughest summers in terms of making a lot of money over an extended period of time, and Deadpool definitely saw that this weekend. After having the second highest opening weekend for an R rated movie, Deadpool 2's numbers fell by over 60%, only making 42 million in its second weekend. Even with the high praises and great word of mouth, Deadpool 2 still dropped pretty far mostly due to the tough competition it was up against. Maybe these movie studios should start spreading out a little bit more, you know like how Black Panther did.
