Box Office: Highs & Downers (May 18-20)
"Who took home the number one spot, and who need a session to get those numbers higher in this week's highs and downers"
Avengers: Infinity War has been on a rampage the last couple of weeks, breaking pretty much every box office record and making it look easy. The movie is great but we all know a huge reason for its dominance was that there has been no competition at the box office, well until now. Deadpool 2 has finally arrived and has its eyes set on the number one box office spot, but would its R rating stop it from beating the Avengers, or hell maybe another movie opening this week could have shocked us all (likely not). So let's take a look at the highs and the downers of the box office results from this weekend.
Top 5 Box Office Results
1. Deadpool 2 - 125 Mil
2. Avengers: Infinity War- 28.6 Mil
3. Book Club - 12.5 Mil
4. Life of the Party - 7.7 Mil
5. Breaking In - 6.4 Mil

Highs
Deadpool 2 Dominates
Deadpool proves yet again that an R rating doesn't mean shit, as it dominated this weekend at the box office making almost 100 million more than the next movie. If you haven't checked out my review, I loved this film, maybe not as much as the first, but still one of my favorite movies of the year. The 125 million is well deserved and I feel it still might have a chance to do pretty well next weekend, even though Solo opens next week. If you are one of the few people who didn't see Deadpool 2 this weekend, first what is wrong with you and second go see it NOW!!!
Book Club's Audience Shows Out
Did I think Book Club was a good movie, No I told people to pass it from my review, But I knew I wasn't the target audience for the movie. It looks like the targeted audience, however, did go out to see this movie. Book Club made over 12 million in its first weekend which is good for a film that we know didn't cost a lot to make. The movie might not have been good at all, but it is good to have a star-studded cast like they did in order to get butts in seats and it worked.
Downers
No All-Time Record for the Avengers
28.6 Million in its fourth weekend is not bad at all for the Avengers, but now that it has competition at the box office it is clear that it will not break the all-time box office record, which is a huge downer. This movie is amazing and everyone had hopes that it could break the record which is held by Avatar at 2.7 billion, but now that Deadpool 2 is out and Solo right around the corner we can expect to see bigger and bigger drops from infinity war. It may get 2 billion but as far as the record goes, I feel it will be too hard of a task even for the Avengers (even though it deserves it).
Shows Dogs Tanks
Shows dogs on paper looked like a lock to be the number one choice for kids this weekend. It has dogs in it, looks stupid enough for kids to fall for, and not many of kids movies opening up so you would think it would do well at the box office, nope. It only managed to make a weak 6 million in its opening weekend which is terrible for a kids film. Like I said in my review, no one should go out and see this film, but I did think it would at least make the top 5 in its opening weekend. I figured kids would buy tickets to this movie and go see Deadpool but guess they decided to buy the Avengers tickets instead.
