Tully - Movie Review

"Being a mom can be happy and stressful at the same time, maybe Theron could have used some MJ to calm herself down"

Tully is the latest comedy/drama by director Jason Reitman starring Charlize Theron as Marlo, a stressed and tired mother of three, including a newborn. Who is on the edge of a breakdown when she decides to hire a night nanny to help her deal with the nightly struggle of being a mother. Although it is a comedy from the trailers it looked to be a realistic look at how it is to be a mother. But did this movie accurately get the message of motherhood across?

Highs

Story

I have to say the story of a mother struggling to deal with life, her children, and even depression was well played out in this movie. It does a good job of showing the ups of motherhood and the downs that come with it in a very realistic and entertaining way. the relationships between Marlo and her family is great, and once the night nanny makes an appearance the movie did start to get more interesting by throwing in a few twists and turns that kinda got my high ass by surprise. The overall theme of this movie is something a lot of women will be able to relate to, and they did a great job of turning it into a nice and entertaining drama that works, as for the comedy part we will get to that later.

Charlie Theron

We all know Charlize is a top-notch actress, and she really shows cased it in this movie. She was great playing the role of a stressed-out mother which she probably has some experience in since she is a mother herself. she had to act portray a lot of different emotions in this movie and did a great job making it seem believable, I honestly would believe someone if they said they made this when she was actually pregnant and going through this stuff. I thought the rest of the cast was good in this movie, but Theron was by far the stand out in this movie and that is kinda to be expected i mean she is featured on the poster after all.

Downers

Jokes

Now I knew going into this film that I (a black, 25-year-old, single male) was not this films target audience which is probably why I didn't find this movie to be too funny. I might have chuckled a little, but I personally did not get any hard laughs while watching this movie, and that not something you want when you are lit.  none

A lot of the jokes are based on being a mom/woman and didn't hit with me, but it did hit with the woman that was in attendance, Which is what they were going for.  As a drama, I thought this movie was good, but as a comedy, I felt it lacked in the truly funny joke to make this movie good for everyone.

Overall

If you a mother or just a woman I think you will connect with this movie. It does a great job of showing the ups and downs of being a mother/woman and I feel a lot of women will relate and enjoy this movie. However, this is my review and unfortunately, I do not fit under the demographic that will love this movie. I'll give this 3.5/5 joints for how well it was executed and for keeping me entertained for the most part, but if you are not a mother/woman you might not want to blaze to see this movie, but hey this movie isn't for us it is for them.
